WOOLTON - Then & NOW

WOOLTON is a suburb in South Liverpool. The Beatles made their first performance in Woolton, and used to practise three doors from the house in Halewood Drive where I grew up. The John Lennon Airport in Speke is less than three miles away in one direction, and Penny Lane is a similar distance in the opposite direction. Woolton is also home to Strawberry Field (a children's home) made famous in the Beatles' song of the same name. A connection three generations back links my family to John Lennon's so, technically, we were related.

On 16th July 2006, armed with my old photograph album and camera, I stood on the same spots that I stood on back in the 1970's and took these colour pictures. If you left-click on the small black & white pictures they will open up as the 1970's version of the corresponding colour picture. Study the details closely.
