SAVE THE ARK!

The Wesley Playhouse in Howden Clough Methodist Church is threatened with closure - this is where you can help.

Before Howden Clough Methodist Church embarked on this superb Christian play gym, they contacted KIRKLEES COUNCIL to apply for planning permission. They were told that planning permission was not needed as the building would still be a Church and the play gym would be one of its activities.

On this basis the leader, Caroline Holt, resigned from her job to operate the project and vast sums of money were invested. KIRKLEES COUNCIL sent their civic dignitaries to pose for the cameras and praise the project at the opening ceremony last October. Local neighbours were sent details of the plans before work began and nobody objected.

Now, for some reason, KIRKLEES COUNCIL have sent a letter telling the Wesley Playhouse to apply for planning permission, or be forced to close down.  It is likely that this permission will be refused and this brilliant enterprise will bite the dust. From what I can gather, one or two local residents have complained of cars being parked on the public highway (Nab Lane). This is not a through road, and is unusually wide, meaning parked cars present no danger whatsoever. These local residents have actually entered the premises using loud and obscene language (a breach of the peace and arrestable offence!)

But remember, KIRKLEES COUNCIL wasted thousands of pounds of our money trying to close a miniature golf course at an ice cream parlour in Whitley because they used tarmac instead of grass between the holes.  KIRKLEES COUNCIL backed down and "chickened out" of passing a demolition order on an illegally built mansion in Mirfield.  KIRKLEES COUNCIL conveniently ignored an illegal Islamic school operating in a closed-down shop in Westborough. Common sense and logic seem strangely absent in the Planning Department.

So, what can we do? Obviously prayer is required in this matter, but please write, as a matter of urgency, to KIRKLEES COUNCIL, pointing out that the building is still a Church, the Wesley Playhouse is a non-profit-making organisation, and that there are no problems being caused in Nab Lane by parked cars. Below is the address to which your letter should be sent. Please take a few minutes and DO IT NOW!
