The 26th Liverpool Company (St James's Church, Woolton)

My father, Ken Salmon, when he was 12 years old, was one of the original boys to join this Company, when it was founded in 1936. He left when war was declared but rejoined in 1978 as a helper, becoming a fully-qualified officer in 1981. He continued to serve until his death in 1996.

In the left picture, taken in 1936, he is behind the two boys at the right of the front row. In the right picture, taken near Reynolds Park in 1979, he is the officer at the rear of the parade. I served briefly as a helper in the Anchor Boys' section from when it started in 1978 until 1980.

The picture on the right is the monthly Church Parade of Sunday 2nd October 1977. The gentleman near the front (directly below the number 8 on the shop's phone number) is the Captain, H I Hughes, who, sadly, is no longer with us. Marching beside him is Mr Ron Swindells who took over as Captain when Mr Hughes retired.

The girls were members of the 18th Liverpool Girls' Brigade, which also met at St James's Church.
